A public video URL does not guarantee that every format or resolution is available. LinkToKeep inspects supported public links and offers the formats returned by the source. Use it for media you own or have permission to download, then choose a file that fits how you plan to view or edit it.

## Inspect the link before choosing quality

Copy the public post or video URL and use Get media. Wait for the available formats rather than assuming a page labeled "HD" can improve a low-resolution upload. The source limits what can be retrieved.

LinkToKeep says it does not require platform passwords or uploaded cookies. If a private, removed or restricted post cannot be retrieved, use the platform's own permitted export options instead of trying to bypass its access controls.

1. Check that the returned title or preview matches the intended media.
2. Choose video for a visual recording or audio when you only need sound.
3. Start the download, then save the finished file to your device.

## Match the container to the next tool

MP4, MKV and MP3 describe different file choices. Check what your player or editor accepts before choosing. A file extension alone does not tell you every codec inside a video container, so test a short file when compatibility matters.

For a presentation, a playable file with the required sound is more useful than the largest possible download. For editing, retain the original resolution when available and avoid repeated conversions that can reduce quality.

## Work backward from a real use

For an illustrative slide-deck task, suppose you need a short clip with sound. Start with a format your presentation software accepts, then check playback on the computer that will present it. A higher-resolution option is not useful if the target player cannot decode it.

1. Choose MP4 when the returned option and your target player are compatible. Check the actual codecs if playback fails.
2. Choose MKV only when the next player or editor supports the returned streams. Renaming an .mkv extension to .mp4 does not convert the file.
3. Choose MP3 for an audio-only task; it will not retain the video. For a gallery, inspect the returned image files or ZIP instead.
4. Save a completed file, play its beginning and ending, and verify sound before the temporary link expires.

## Check the local copy while it is available

Open the saved file and verify duration, audio, orientation and the ending. A silent preview can mean missing audio, a muted player or a format your player does not decode; check before repeating the whole download.

The service describes temporary server storage and a one-hour file availability window after completion. Save the local copy promptly and consult the retention policy for details. Keep the source URL and permission context with the file when it will be reused in a project.
