About PR Agent
PR Agent is a free reviewer for GitHub pull requests. Beginners, experienced developers, and teams at companies run it on their own servers. CodeRabbit and Greptile sell hosted reviews. PR Agent is the self-hosted alternative, and the software has no fee per person. Their GitHub credentials and AI key stay in their own account.
When a pull request opens, the PR agent reads what changed and posts a review. It posts comments next to the lines that need attention. It also posts a short summary in the conversation. The team can see that the review has started. The PR agent uses a lighter review when the change is only documentation. On a very large change, the PR agent says what it could not cover.
Someone can also ask the PR agent to write the pull request description, answer a code question in the same thread, or apply fixes from the review. They can preview those fixes before it updates the code.
The software costs $0. Running it does not require a credit card, and the license is MIT. People who run it pay for the server and for AI use. They keep using GitHub the same way when they switch AI providers. The AI key stays on the machine that runs the reviews. PR Agent works with GitHub only. When a review needs AI, PR Agent sends that work to the provider they chose.
