About Better Shot
Better Shot is a native macOS app for screenshots and screen recordings, made for Mac users who want to capture, edit and share their work in one place. It runs from the menu bar and combines capture, annotation, beautification and video editing in a single app.
Screenshots can cover a region, a window, the full screen or a scrolling page, with text recognition (OCR) and a color picker built in. Captures can be marked up with arrows, shapes, text and numbered markers, then placed on a gradient background with adjustable padding, corners and shadow. Screen recordings can include system audio, a microphone and a face cam bubble. The editor handles trimming, splitting, per-clip speed, cursor-following auto zoom, on-device captions and masks that blur, pixelate or spotlight part of the frame, then exports MP4 or MOV without a watermark.
A typical use is recording a short product walkthrough, zooming in on the important step and adding captions before sharing it. Files stay on the Mac unless Cloud Share is used, which uploads to a Cloudflare R2 bucket the user owns. A URL scheme lets tools such as Raycast, Alfred or Shortcuts start a capture.
Better Shot is free and open source under the BSD 3-Clause license, with no account, paid tier or telemetry. It requires macOS 26 or later on Apple Silicon or Intel and installs with Homebrew or a DMG from GitHub Releases.
