Common questions

Is llms.txt required for AI search?

No. It is a proposed convention, and support varies. Google says no special AI text file or schema is needed for its AI search features. This file cannot guarantee crawling, citations, or recommendations.

Can llms.txt control training or crawler access?

No. It is a reading guide, not an access-control mechanism or robots policy. Review each provider’s crawler documentation and use robots.txt where supported; protect private information with authentication.
